~Not a book that I would have gone looking for…not even really sure how I stumbled across it. However, the cover art really intrigued me…a flying 1964 Ford Mustang. So, okay, I gave it a try.~I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. It offered a variety of different genres all at once. Youthful teen growth…the main character is only fourteen, so finding the right dress and going to the prom while saving the world can get complicated. It had magic, it had sci-fi, it had adventure, it had character development, it had some interesting surprises…yeah, and it even had just a little romance. Nothing that would make it unacceptable for a youthful reader.
~Samantha was a likeable girl from the beginning. Then she was forced into situations far beyond her age, experience, and ability, however her character really grew as the story progressed. (I’ll not tell you how, that would be a spoiler.)
~There was a lot of loyalty shown by the supporting characters…again, not going to say who. I was pleasantly surprised once or twice!
~It was a light, fast read, but one that kept the reader engaged. Be it a young reader or an adult reader, I would recommend this book. Actually, I would read a sequel.

Age of Heroes The Witch Hunter Gauntlet B A Schulte Books Reviews
AT first I thought this book was a Potter knockoff but it turns out to be a unique page turner which was difficult to put down. I look forward to reading more of this author's work and highly encourage anyone to read or purchase it. I have not been compensated for writing this review nor do I know this author. The book is simply that good. Fun escapism geared towards teens.
A fun book with characters we'll enjoy following. My wife, son, and I read aloud as a family activity and this book hit the mark. We had read all the Harry Potter series at least twice, all of Rick Riordan's great books, and all the the Immortal Nicholas Flammel SerIes. Thanks to Mr. Shultz, we will all enjoy following Sam and the rest of the gang through their adventures.
This book was a very exciting journey into a new realm of possibilities that might be there and might not be there. The author wrote a very great and exciting story that was exciting all the way through book. I did not want to put it down once I started reading. I am and adult that loves stories that talk about other things that could be possible, and I believe this book was just that. I recommend it to all ages. Thank you Bret Schulte for an exciting and mind blowing book.
Really enjoyed this fantasy romp. The main character is a bit annoyingly whiny, but once you get beyond this, the world creation and plot are very entertaining. I like the clash of magic and science the author has brewing and really look forward to a continuation of the series. The plot driven fast pass of this book was a pleasure. Catch ya later. )
Excellent YA fantasy. This is a fun story, with plenty of action & a little romance. It is not dark or edgy. The characters are likeable and, for the most part, believable. The suspense is really good in the second half, and kept me glued to the book until the end.
There are a few impossible things in the story. If that bothers you, this is not the right book for you. If you are looking for adult fantasy, this is not for you. But if you like light reading and romantic urban fantasy, give it a try.
This book stands well on its own, but I'll be keeping my eye out for book 2!
Although I am an adult, I read quite a bit of YA and teen fiction because I find it to be well-written and uncomplicated by "adult" themes. I love series like Harry Potter, The Maze Runner and so many others. I found the same to be true with "Age of Heroes" by Bret Schulte. The story of Samantha Hathaway, a young teen who finds way too much resting in her hands as she is thrust into a world of magic and monsters. A great mystery and adventure, that carries you along with Samantha and her friends for a really fun ride. I loved every minute of this book and can't wait for more from this talented author.
This took me almost a month to finish, which, for me, is quite a long time. It felt like a long book, but since I read it on my , I don't really have an accurate way to measure the length of it. All I know is that I felt like there were plenty of parts that could have been cut, characters that served little purpose (I got many of them mixed up - but this could also be because I kept leaving off and picking it up a few days later when the characters weren't fresh in my mind), and generally, it didn't really start picking up for me until quite a ways through.
However, with that said - I did enjoy the unique setting and world-building going on in this book. I liked Sam and I liked Lucas. I felt like the author did a good job of getting into that age-group's mindset. The weapons were unique and I liked how the book was kind of a mix between magic and science. I'll probably give the next book in the series a try - especially since most of the back story and "set up" have been done now, so hopefully the next book won't take as long to get going.
