Between the tension of the covert red drones and the streaker pilots, and beautifully written flight sequences, and the fully fledged and deeply emotional heroine, AND some of my favorite secondary characters ever (especially the genius, Pippin), I had a hard time putting the book down.

Amazing book! Finished it in a day. I can't wait to see this transfered to film.
Compelling fiction that keeps the reader engaged and engrossed. A terrific summer read!
I just do not like this book.
I loved everything about this novel. The characters were complex and flawed, and yet very likable. The idea of a second Cold War and drones becoming a powerful war tool seems utterly believable to me. While McCarthy tackled emotionally charged topics, she also brought a lot of fun into the story. Once I started reading it, I didn't want to stop. I just had to know what would happen to Chase and the others at Star Academy. The end was satisfying. This is definitely one of those books I'll be telling my friends about.
Breaking Sky is compelling read that combines the most engaging elements of YA fiction at its finest.

The writing style is clean and compelling. Each action sequence, romantic intrigue, introspection, and piece of dialogue flow together seamlessly for an uninterrupted experience of great storytelling.

For those who want the best of what YA has to offer, action, romance, dystopian futures, and heroic yet flawed characters, I highly recommend this book.
This book is one of those stories that sticks with you long after you finished. Although I finished the book some time ago, it's themes of feminism, friendship, importance of technology and youthful risk-taking still occupy my mind. In addition to the thrilling flight scenes the discussion of world politics and the importance of inter-country communication/cooperation keep the readers attention. The new cold war aspect of the book, in my opinion, is ingenious. But, I'm a history nerd, so those things excite me.
Just finished this book last night, and I was honestly devastated when it ended! Breaking Sky is one of the best books i've ever read. McCarthy is much more daring than a lot of authors out there; she puts things in there that you would NEVER expect in "mainstream" young adult novels like Twilight or Hunger Games, to name a few. There were points in the book where I would be thinking out loud "wow, she really went there?!". And you know what? I am so glad she went there (even though I was flat out bawling my eyes out a few times). This book was never redundant or cliché, and there was just the right amount of romance without it becoming over-the-top. Character development was phenomenal... you can't help but get attached to each and every one of them. The flight and conflict scenes were thrilling, making it almost impossible to put the book down. Well done McCarthy, I wish there was a sequel!
